Summer Quarter Outline

The Summer quarter is divided into two sessions: Summer A and Summer B. Summer A runs from May 15 to June 29, and Summer B runs from July 3 to August 11.

Registration for Summer quarter courses opens in early March. Students can register for courses online through the Drexel One system.

Classes for the Fall Quarter begin on Wednesday, September 5, 2024. Students should be prepared to attend all of their scheduled classes on this day.

October 14, 2024 – Fall Break Begins

Fall Break begins on Monday, October 14, 2024. Classes will not be held on this day or the following day, Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

October 28, 2024 – Last Day to Drop a Course with a “W”

The last day to drop a course with a “W” (withdraw) is Monday, October 28, 2024. After this date, students who drop a course will receive a grade of “F” (fail).

November 6, 2024 – Midterm Exams Begin

Midterm exams for the Fall Quarter begin on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. The schedule for midterm exams will be announced by each professor.

November 27-29, 2024 – Thanksgiving Break

Thanksgiving Break begins on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and ends on Friday, November 29, 2024. Classes will not be held during this time.

December 12, 2024 – Last Day of Classes

The last day of classes for the Fall Quarter is Friday, December 12, 2024. Students should be sure to attend all of their scheduled classes on this day.

December 15-19, 2024 – Final Exams

Final exams for the Fall Quarter will be held from Monday, December 15, 2024, to Friday, December 19, 2024. The schedule for final exams will be announced by each professor.

Semester Conversion Information

Benefits of Semester Conversion

Drexel University is converting to a semester-based academic calendar, with the first semester beginning in Fall 2024. The conversion to semesters will provide several benefits to students, faculty, and staff, including:

Enhanced flexibility: Semesters will allow students to take courses more flexibly and pursue internships or other experiences during the breaks.
Improved course sequencing: Semesters will enable faculty to design courses in a more logical and sequential manner.
Increased efficiency: Semesters will allow for more efficient use of classroom space and faculty time.

Semester Start and End Dates

The first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year will begin on August 26, 2024, and end on December 13, 2024. The second semester will begin on January 13, 2025, and end on May 9, 2025.

Course Load

Students will typically take 12-15 credit hours per semester. The maximum course load for undergraduate students is 18 credit hours.

Grading

Students will receive letter grades for their coursework. The grading scale is as follows:

Registration

Summer Session

Drexel University will offer a summer session following the spring semester. The summer session will run from May 12, 2025, to August 4, 2025. Students can take courses during the summer session to accelerate their progress towards graduation.

Exam Period Dates and Policies

Exam Period Dates

The Fall 2023 exam period will run from Saturday, December 16th to Thursday, December 21st. The Spring 2024 exam period will run from Tuesday, April 30th to Thursday, May 9th.

Exam Scheduling

Exams are scheduled by the Registrar’s Office based on course enrollment and availability of classrooms. Students can view their exam schedule on DrexelOne.

Exam Policies

Drexel University has a number of policies in place regarding exams. These policies include:

Students are expected to attend all scheduled exams.
Students must bring a valid photo ID to all exams.
Students may not use any electronic devices during exams, unless otherwise permitted by the instructor.

Exam Conflicts

If a student has two or more exams scheduled at the same time, they must contact the Registrar’s Office immediately. The Registrar’s Office will work with the student to resolve the conflict.

Accommodation for Disabilities

Students with disabilities who need accommodations for exams should contact the Office of Disability Services at 215-895-1401.

Exam Grading

Exams are graded by the instructor of the course. Students can view their exam grades on DrexelOne.

Exam Regrades

Students who believe that their exam was graded incorrectly may request a regrade. Requests for regrades must be submitted to the instructor in writing within one week of the exam date.

Registration Deadlines and Instructions

Registration for the 2024-2025 academic year will begin in April 2024. Students who have already completed their admissions applications will be able to register for classes at that time. Detailed instructions and deadlines will be posted on the Drexel University website in advance of the registration period.

September 1, 2024: Last day to withdraw from a class with a “W” grade.

Special Registration Considerations for New Students

New students will need to attend a mandatory New Student Orientation program before they can register for classes. Orientation programs will be held throughout the summer and fall of 2024. Students will learn more about New Student Orientation programs and receive a specific registration date and time at their orientation.

International students must submit a completed International Student Certification Form to the Office of International Programs before they can register for classes. The International Student Certification Form can be found on the Office of International Programs website.

Late Registration

Students who do not register for classes by the priority registration deadline may be able to register for late registration. Late registration will be available from August 1, 2024 to August 15, 2024. A late registration fee will be charged to all students who register during this period.

Waitlists

Students who are unable to register for a class can add themselves to a waitlist. Waitlists will be processed in the order in which students add themselves to the list. If a spot becomes available in the class, the student at the top of the waitlist will be notified and given the opportunity to register.
